Castle scoop, Sandra? You know you want to! — Joanne
Don’t tell me what I want! Kidding. Actually, I’d prefer you did because, God knows I have no freaking clue. Anyway, if you followed word from Comic-Con, you already know about plans for a superhero-themed episode and a Halloween-themed episode. But executive producer Laurie Zaks told me preliminary plans to send the gang to the premiere of the Nikki Heat film in L.A.! (The show typically shoots its New York setting on a stage in L.A.) So does that mean Laura Prepon would reprise her role as the title character of the movie? Possibly, says Zaks. “That would totally depend on her schedule, and she got cast in a pilot. If you’ll remember, the character was sent off to rehab, so hopefully she’ll be out of rehab by then,” she said with a laugh.

Matt’s Inside Line: Scoop on Castle

posted by Anna | with No Comments | in Season Four, Season Three

Warning: This article contains spoilers for a Season 4 storyline.

Imagine a Season 3 finale where, as Beckett lay freshly felled and bleeding, Castle says, no, not ‘I love you,” but… nothing. Well, that anticlimax almost happened. “There was a lot of thought about that, about whether to [have Rick] say it or not,” reveals exec producer Laurie Zaks. “The network and studio were like, ‘Does he have to say it?’ So we shot it both ways.” Fortunately, the romanticism of the profession ultimately won everyone over. “Once you saw [the scene], it was like, He has to say it,” Zaks says. Turning to the new season and other characters, Zaks confirmed there will be an episode that picks up the loose thread of the gun that Ryan lost during the 3XK serial killer arc. “That’s a very compelling episode,” she teases. “It’s going to be very good.”

Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas Preview Double Date Drama and the Return of 3XK

posted by Jessica | with No Comments | in Jon Huertas, Seamus Dever, Season Four

If you’re a fan of Castle‘s Ryan/Esposito bromance, I’ve got good news: You’re going to be seeing a lot more of them this season.

Their portrayers, Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas, confirmed as much when they dropped by TVLine’s Comic-Con suite last weekend. “We hear that people are really latching on to Esposito and Ryan,” Dever shared, “and wanting to see them evolve.” Huertas was a little more blunt. “The writers, the studio and the network finally came to their senses,” he deadpanned.

Lucky for all you spoiler addicts, the wisecracking pair got serious long enough to tease the arrival of 24‘s Penny Johnson Jerald as their new boss, the upcoming double date disaster-themed episode involving Esposito and Ryan, and the return of the 3XK killer.

What Happens When Castle Can’t Be Castle?

posted by Jessica | with No Comments | in Articles, Season Four

In the Season 3 finale of ABC’s Castle, Castle’s boss died (R.I.P., Captain Montgomery!), he told his partner he loves her, and he almost put his own daughter in the line of fire. This guy is in need of some serious discipline! Enter Captain Victoria Gates (Penny Johnson Jerald), whose nickname, “Iron Gates,” says it all. It seems that Castle (Nathan Fillion) is going to have a tough time being, well, Castle this season.

“She’s not warm and cuddly,” Seamus Dever, who plays Detective Kevin Ryan, says of new boss Gates. “So the days of us being protected, and the days of Castle being very welcome at the precinct are over.”

Captain Gates won’t immediately cotton to the mystery writer-turned-homicide detective’s unorthodox style. In fact, his lack of formal police training may mean his days of tagging along with the team are numbered. “She’s very much by the book; she doesn’t take any shortcuts and she doesn’t know Castle,” Tamala Jones, who plays medical examiner Lanie Parish, says. “Castle had a relationship with the mayor and Captain Montgomery, and [Gates] doesn’t have a relationship with the mayor, so some of his privileges might be getting cut. She’s a lot harder, a lot tougher.”

The one person who’ll be happy about this turn of events is Castle’s daughter Alexis (Molly Quinn). After her close call with a bullet (at a funeral no less), she’ll start to realize just how much her dad is putting on the line for his side job. “Castle’s not only risking his own life, he’s risking Alexis’ life, he’s risking her grandmother’s life. Alexis just wants him to realize that,” Quinn says. “She thinks that by making him realize that, he’ll back down. As she tries to get that across — what’s even more scary — is that it’s getting across, but he’s like, ‘I’m still going to do it. I still have to do this.’”

Castle’s determination to stay with the force will be met by resistance from Captain Gates, a woman who has no time for a man whose bulletproof vest says “WRITER” and whose far-fetched theories fly in the face of protocol. “Now we have a captain who doesn’t care about Castle and who’s not invested in Beckett. There’s no trust between these people,” Fillion says. “So you have a veritable stranger — who’s not an easy woman — and you have Castle, who’s very accustomed to dealing with women, but usually he finds himself being adored and charming. This is a woman who will not be charmed, so it’s going to very difficult for Castle.”

Season 4 of Castle premieres on Monday, Sept. 19 at 10/9c on ABC.

Question: Since Castle started back filming last Thursday, got any spoilers for Season 4? —Danielle

Ausiello:
Look for Ryan and Esposito to get considerable more air time this season, something Jon Huertas confirmed to me at Comic-Con. One Ryan/Esposito-centric episode revolves around “a double date with Ryan/Jenny and Esposito/Lanie,” he revealed, “and things don’t go so well.”

Season 4 Preview From Comic-Con

posted by Jessica | with No Comments | in Season Four

Exclusive Castle Preview: Will Season 4 (Finally) Bring Castle and Beckett Together?

What happens after “I love you”?

That’s the question on every Castle fan’s mind after the explosive season 3 finale, which featured Captain Montgomery’s death and Beckett (Stana Katic) being shot just moments before Castle (Nathan Fillion) made a heartfelt confession of love. Assuming the ABC crime drama won’t be killing off its leading lady, will the show’s fourth season bring will-they-won’t-they couple together for more than just a passionate kiss? Is it finally the right time for Castle and Beckett?

The first trailer for Season 4, which just screened at Comic-Con, offers few answers, but it does reflect on many of Castle and Beckett’s best (and most romantic) moments from the past three years. Watch the preview and decide for yourself: Should Castle and Beckett should get together this season?

Season 4 of Castle premieres on Monday, Sept. 19 at 10/9c on ABC. Watch the trailer here:

Nathan Fillion Previews ‘Repercussions’ of Castle’s Love Confession

posted by Anna | with No Comments | in Nathan Fillion, Season Four, Spoilers

Nathan Fillion talks about Season 4 with TV Line. You can watch the video interview by clicking the source link, but be warned: there are spoilers for Season 4. I haven’t watched it myself, so I can’t say exactly how spoilery it is.

Even the great geek god, Nathan Fillion, isn’t immune to Jedi mind tricks, as the Castlestar realized upon sitting down in TVLine’s Comic-Con interview suite to answer some questions about the ABC hit’s shocking finale and the aftermath coming in the Season 4 opener (airing Monday, Sept. 19).

After lamenting the exit of cast member Ruben Santiago-Hudson (and in turn pitching a way to bring the late Capt. Montgomery back), Fillion clears the air about the season-ending shooting, confirming that Beckett (played by Stana Katic) indeed was shot in her “important bits.”

He then goes on to say that, given Castle’s declaration of love as Beckett lay wounded, “Certainly there are repercussions. Once you say something like that… it’s going to have to be dealt with.”

Fillion also reveals what it’s like to get shoved around by on-screen rival Victor Webster‘s “manhole cover”-hands when the gents clash, shares the overall theme for Season 4, and offers his informed take on for just how long Rick and Kate can “do this dance” before diving into romance.
