Will Castle’s Couple Finally Commit?
Castle closes the book on Season 3 with a finale that promises to change the lives of its mystery novel – writing protagonist (Nathan Fillion) and his muse (Stana Katic) forever. “I wanted to give fans an epic episode,” says executive producer Andrew Marlowe. “We have to launch into a new level of maturity in the Castle-Beckett relationship and [give them] a new set of issues to confront.”
The hour begins with a prison break that leads Beckett to dangerous revelations concerning the conspiracy behind her mother’s death. “Everybody around her is very concerned she’s running into the fire,” Marlowe reveals. “They’re trying to hold her back, but Beckett loses all reason because it’s deeply personal to her.”
What Beckett discovers – and, more specifically, who she learns was indirectly involved in her mother’s murder – will have deadly repercussions: One series regular will be in a casket before the episode’s end.
But that’s not the only twist. Expect Castle and Beckett to finally address the passionate kiss they shared earlier this year. “[When] Castle tells Beckett to back off [her mother’s] case, it becomes a fight about their relationship,” Marlowe says. “It’s like, ‘We kissed, we nearly died in each other’s arms – what are we?’”
The real shockers though, come in the final minutes of the episode, which ends with a cliff-hanger that will have viewers talking all summer. “The fans are gonna be after me,” Marlowe says with a laugh. “I’m just gonna sign off Twitter until things cool down.” – Shawna Malcom
